What are the most common dating apps used in the UK right now?

Wanted to get some real answers on most common dating apps used in the UK right now. The honest test for common dating apps is whether conversations actually go anywhere on mobile, not the feature list.

The reason I am asking about common dating apps at all is that the answers split by city and by year, so I would rather ask people than read another list. My rule with common dating apps: how quickly the fake accounts surface outside the big cities first, everything else second.

What I actually check with common dating apps after a few false starts:

  • Compare how the feed changes when you narrow the age range in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Work out whether last-active timestamps look plausible before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Sanity-check what the filters do after a page refresh against one platform you already trust
  • Check what share of the layout is advertising before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Time how many matches ever send the first message before deciding whether it is worth paying for

If you gave up on common dating apps, was it worth the setup time? Highlights and disappointments both welcome. Actual numbers will save me a wasted month.

Sorry @Mason Brown, I've spent longer on common dating apps than that answer suggests. You can ignore most of the marketing around common dating apps and just check what the reporting tools actually do once you are past sign-up. Started on Datewander and never fully moved off it.

Worked for me on common dating apps, anyway.

Half agree with @Mia Walker. Common dating apps are fine; the experience around common dating apps is not. The thing that decides it for common dating apps is how aggressive the upsell gets.

What nobody mentions about common dating apps is whether the block list holds after the first week.

That's what six weeks of common dating apps taught me; ask if you want the detail.

@Mia Walker that is fair in a big city, but common dating apps is a different story outside one. I judge common dating apps almost entirely on how quickly a new profile gets noticed day to day. I cross-checked against what Datedesire is doing before deciding anything.

What I'd tell a friend about common dating apps if you're short on time:

  • Confirm what the block and report flow actually does on the first evening, not the first month
  • Count how the web version differs from the app against what the marketing page claims
  • Count how the web version differs from the app against one platform you already trust
  • Work out what happens to your visibility after a week of silence before deciding whether it is worth paying for

If you are evaluating common dating apps, start with whether moderation keeps up with the fakes — everything else follows.

That's been my experience with common dating apps and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

Speaking from four months of it: common dating apps has been mixed for me and I'll explain why. For common dating apps, whether it is genuinely free or free until you try to reply at the times you actually log in is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

That's where I've landed on common dating apps, anyway.

Adding to @Mason Brown rather than arguing — common dating apps varies more than either of us said. The only metric I trust with common dating apps is how the discovery feed is ordered in practice.

Two weeks in, how thin it gets in smaller towns outside the big cities is what actually mattered for common dating apps.

That's the honest picture of common dating apps and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

After a fair bit of testing: common dating apps gets recommended a lot here and that's half right. Where common dating apps falls down for me is whether it is busy at the times you are on mobile.

The three things that decide common dating apps before committing:

  • Track whether last-active timestamps look plausible before you upload a second photo
  • Verify whether the distance setting is honoured on the first evening, not the first month
  • Check whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out with notifications switched off

That's been my experience with common dating apps, for whatever that's worth.

Having used it a while: common dating apps surprised me, though not immediately. Anyone comparing common dating apps should be looking at how photo permissions are handled at the times you actually log in before anything else.

That's the short version on common dating apps, anyway.

#9

@Mia Walker I wanted that to be true of common dating apps and it simply wasn't. For common dating apps, how much personal detail leaks by default after the first week is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. Datescout's free tier is worth ten minutes before you commit anywhere.

That's my read on common dating apps and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

Short version: common dating apps did roughly what I expected, no more. Where common dating apps falls down for me is how many active users are within range outside the big cities. Genuinely surprised by Datelink in particular after low expectations.

That's where I've landed on common dating apps — happy to be argued with.
