Is there a master list of all free dating apps currently available on iOS?

Wanted to get some real answers on master list of all free dating apps currently available on iOS. The only metric I trust with master list is how the discovery feed is ordered once you are past sign-up.

What nobody agrees on with master list is that the answers split by city and by year, and that is exactly the gap I am trying to close. Where master list falls down for me is how the interface holds up on mobile in practice.

What I actually check with master list this year:

  • Compare whether the distance setting is honoured on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Count what happens to your visibility after a week of silence twice, a week apart
  • Pin down what the block and report flow actually does using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Test how the search behaves outside the default radius with the age filter set narrow
  • Count how the search behaves outside the default radius against one platform you already trust

If you have used master list in the last few months, what should I check first? Recent wins and recent regrets equally useful. Recent write-ups beat a one-word verdict.

Counterpoint to @ZachR: master list got noticeably worse after the last redesign. What nobody mentions about master list is what the reply rate looks like at the times you actually log in. Kept souldate.site open in another tab to compare.

The honest test for master list is what the search filters can actually do, not the feature list.

That's the honest picture of master list — happy to be argued with.

Unpopular view, maybe: master list gets recommended a lot here and that's half right. If you're evaluating master list, start with how quickly a new profile gets noticed — everything else follows.

For master list, how clean the member base looks is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

Worked for me on master list, for whatever that is worth.

Honest take: master list is a decent starting point and a poor destination. The thing that decides it for master list is what the escalation path looks like outside the big cities.

Worked for me on master list; ask if you want the detail.

Respectfully @VioletH, master list hasn't worked like that in my experience. My rule with master list: whether the profiles hold up under scrutiny in practice first, everything else second. I cross-checked against Datenest these days before deciding anything.

That's the short version on master list and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

Unpopular view, maybe: I want to like master list more than I actually do. I judge master list almost entirely on how much you have to reveal to use it on mobile.

Two weeks in, how quickly a new profile gets noticed day to day is what actually mattered for master list.

That's my read on master list and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

@VioletH is describing a version of master list I have never seen. Anyone comparing master list should be looking at what costs money once you are past sign-up day to day before anything else.

The rough checklist I use for master list if you're short on time:

  • Sanity-check how many matches ever send the first message against one platform you already trust
  • Pin down how many matches ever send the first message and write the answer down
  • Sanity-check whether last-active timestamps look plausible before deciding whether it is worth paying for

You can ignore most of the marketing around master list and just check what the reply rate looks like once you are past sign-up.

That's where I have landed on master list — happy to be argued with.

For what it's worth: master list is a decent starting point and a poor destination. Two weeks in, whether it is genuinely free or free until you try to reply is what actually mattered for master list. A friend nudged me toward Datelink these days and it was not a waste.

What I'd tell a friend about master list this year:

  • Work out whether the distance setting is honoured before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Test what happens to your visibility after a week of silence against what the marketing page claims
  • Note how the feed changes when you narrow the age range before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Watch how the search behaves outside the default radius with notifications switched off

What nobody mentions about master list is whether there are enough people to bother in practice.

That's what six weeks of master list taught me, though clearly it varies by region.

Broadly agreeing, with a caveat: master list did roughly what I expected, no more. My rule with master list: how photo permissions are handled outside the big cities first, everything else second. what Flamedate is doing was the only one that did not gate replies.

That's where I've landed on master list, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.
