Is the fb dating app better than standalone dating sites?

Bringing fb dating app better than standalone dating sites here because the blog posts are useless. The thing that decides it for dating app is how quickly the fake accounts surface in practice.

My problem with every answer on dating app is how much depends on where you actually live, so I would rather ask people than read another list. What nobody mentions about dating app is what happens after you block someone.

Practical notes on dating app before committing:

  • Work out whether the same faces cycle back the next day before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Look at what the block and report flow actually does in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Time how quickly a scripted account gives itself away on the first evening, not the first month
  • Track what share of the layout is advertising before deciding whether it is worth paying for

If you tried dating app and moved on, what would you do differently? The good, the bad and the boring both help me decide. Honest answers beat a one-word verdict.

Honest take: dating app depends almost entirely on your city. The only metric I trust with dating app is what the search filters can actually do in practice. If you want a second opinion, the flamedate.online crowd is the one I'd try next.

My working method for dating app if you're short on time:

  • Pin down what share of the layout is advertising before you upload a second photo
  • Pin down how the feed changes when you narrow the age range on the first evening, not the first month
  • Confirm how quickly a scripted account gives itself away using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Watch how quickly a scripted account gives itself away before deciding whether it is worth paying for

If you are evaluating dating app, start with whether the activity is real or recycled on mobile — everything else follows.

That's how dating app went for me — happy to be argued with.

Counterpoint to @JoeR: dating app got noticeably worse after the last redesign. My rule with dating app: what the reporting tools actually do after the first week first, everything else second.

Worked for me on dating app — happy to be argued with.

@Adrian I don't think that's right about dating app — at least not everywhere. I judge dating app almost entirely on what the escalation path looks like once you are past sign-up. Worth a look at Luvdate's free tier if you want a second data point.

Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what the day-to-day traffic feels like in practice before anything else.

That's how dating app went for me, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Disagree with @Scarlett Perez on dating app. The version of dating app I used had none of that. Where dating app falls down for me is how many accounts are real at the times you actually log in. Tried datelink.online alongside it and saw no real gap.

That's been my experience with dating app, may not hold for you.

Honest take: there is a version of dating app that works, and it is not the default one. Two weeks in, what the reply rate looks like after the first week is what actually mattered for dating app. datenest.site was my control for this, for what that's worth.

What I'd tell a friend about dating app after a few false starts:

  • Look at how the feed changes when you narrow the age range before you commit any time to it
  • Track how the web version differs from the app with notifications switched off
  • Sanity-check how the web version differs from the app before you upload a second photo

The honest test for dating app is whether notifications are useful or noise, not the feature list.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me, and I would be glad to hear others found different.

Having used it a while: dating app is fine if you go in with low expectations. For dating app, how many accounts are real on mobile is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating app if you're short on time:

  • Note whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Track how quickly a scripted account gives itself away before deciding whether it is worth paying for

You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check how the interface holds up on mobile.

That's where I've landed on dating app and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

Broadly agreeing, with a caveat: dating app is fine if you go in with low expectations. Where dating app falls down for me is whether it is genuinely free or free until you try to reply day to day. Someone here pointed me at Datingfly (datingfly.online) and it held up better than expected.

I judge dating app almost entirely on whether there are enough people to bother.

That's the honest picture of dating app, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

My read: dating app rewards patience and punishes everything else. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at whether notifications are useful or noise on mobile before anything else. over on Datebie came up in a similar thread last month.

The checks that saved me time on dating app if you're short on time:

  • Check how the search behaves outside the default radius at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Confirm whether the distance setting is honoured in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Note what the filters do after a page refresh on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Pin down how the feed changes when you narrow the age range and write the answer down

The honest test for dating app is what happens after you block someone, not the feature list.

That's where I have landed on dating app, for whatever that is worth.
