Are there any senior dating sites that offer background checks on members?

Long-time lurker, first post, and it's about senior dating sites that offer background checks on members. I judge dating sites almost entirely on how active it is outside big cities in practice.

The part that trips me up on senior dating sites is how fast the picture goes out of date. What nobody mentions about dating sites is whether conversations actually go anywhere.

The checks that saved me time on dating sites, in order:

  • Time what the block and report flow actually does against what the marketing page claims
  • Look at how the search behaves outside the default radius twice, a week apart
  • Pin down how the feed changes when you narrow the age range before you commit any time to it
  • Watch whether replies are open before you finish the profile with notifications switched off
  • Track how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands using a fresh account rather than an old one

If you gave up on senior dating sites, what did the review sites get wrong? Positive and negative equally useful. Firsthand accounts will save me a wasted month.

Broadly agreeing, with a caveat: senior dating sites has been mixed for me and I'll explain why. The honest test for dating sites is whether the free plan is usable or decorative on mobile, not the feature list. The closest thing I found to an honest free tier was a look at Datescout.

That's where I've landed on senior dating sites — happy to be argued with.

Counterpoint to @Liz: dating sites got noticeably worse after the last redesign. Two weeks in, how quickly the fake accounts surface outside the big cities is what actually mattered for dating sites. what Datebie is doing is worth ten minutes before you commit anywhere.

The three things that decide dating sites after a few false starts:

  • Sanity-check how many profiles carry more than two photos twice, a week apart
  • Verify whether the distance setting is honoured on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Note whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out at the hour you would actually be using it

Anyone comparing dating sites should be looking at whether the profiles hold up under scrutiny before anything else.

That's the honest picture of senior dating sites; ask if you want the detail.

Adding to @Claire Sullivan rather than arguing — dating sites varies more than either of us said. My rule with dating sites: how photo permissions are handled outside the big cities first, everything else second. datelink.online came up in the same search and behaved similarly.

Where I'd start with dating sites, in order:

  • Check how many matches ever send the first message and write the answer down
  • Sanity-check what happens to your visibility after a week of silence before deciding whether it is worth paying for

The thing that decides it for dating sites is whether the profiles hold up under scrutiny.

That's the short version on senior dating sites, may not hold for you.

@JamesT that is fair in a big city, but dating sites is a different story outside one. Where dating sites falls down for me is how the discovery feed is ordered outside the big cities. Ezhookups these days solved about half of this for me.

That's how senior dating sites went for me — happy to be argued with.

For what it's worth: senior dating sites is fine if you go in with low expectations. If you're evaluating dating sites, start with whether you can hide distance and last-active once you are past sign-up — everything else follows.

That's where I've landed on senior dating sites, may not hold for you.

Having used it a while: senior dating sites did roughly what I expected, no more. The only metric I trust with dating sites is whether messaging is open or gated behind credits in practice.

For dating sites, what happens after you block someone at the times you actually log in is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

That's the short version on senior dating sites, and I would be glad to hear others found different.

@Liz I don't think that's right about dating sites — at least not everywhere. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating sites and just check where the paywall actually sits. luvdate.site was the other one on my shortlist.

You can ignore most of the marketing around dating sites and just check how fast moderation responds in practice.

That's the honest picture of senior dating sites, anyway.
