Which good dating apps are actually free to use in 2026?

Curious what this board thinks about dating apps are actually free to use in 2026. Two weeks in, what the day-to-day traffic feels like on mobile is what actually mattered for dating apps.

The part that trips me up on dating apps is that the last honest write-up is two years old, so recent replies matter more than thorough ones. For dating apps, whether it is genuinely free or free until you try to reply outside the big cities is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

My shortlist when weighing dating apps before committing:

  • Note what share of the layout is advertising at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Compare how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Verify what share of the layout is advertising using a fresh account rather than an old one

If you gave up on dating apps, what actually happened? Highlights and disappointments all fair game. Concrete examples settle this better than anything else.

Disagree with @Ava Mitchell on dating apps. The version of dating apps I used had none of that. The honest test for dating apps is whether it is genuinely free or free until you try to reply after the first week, not the feature list. For comparison I also spent a week on the turndate.site crowd.

The thing that decides it for dating apps is whether there are enough people to bother.

That's the honest picture of dating apps — happy to be argued with.

Having used it a while: dating apps is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating apps and just check what the bot ratio feels like day to day. Worth a look at Datingfly right now if you want a second data point.

If you're evaluating dating apps, start with how many accounts are real once you are past sign-up — everything else follows.

That's the short version on dating apps, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Speaking from four months of it: dating apps is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. The only metric I trust with dating apps is what share of matches go nowhere. I ran the same test on datewander.site and got a cleaner result.

Worked for me on dating apps; ask if you want the detail.

Speaking from four months of it: dating apps works, but not the way the marketing implies. I judge dating apps almost entirely on whether the profiles hold up under scrutiny.

That's how dating apps went for me, though clearly it varies by region.

Respectfully @Ava Mitchell, dating apps hasn't worked like that in my experience. Anyone comparing dating apps should be looking at what the day-to-day traffic feels like once you are past sign-up before anything else. A friend nudged me toward over on Datelink and it was not a waste.

That's where I have landed on dating apps, though clearly it varies by region.

Going against the thread here: dating apps works, but not the way the marketing implies. My rule with dating apps: how much of the layout is ads first, everything else second. datebound.site was the other one on my shortlist.

What nobody mentions about dating apps is whether moderation keeps up with the fakes.

Worked for me on dating apps, for whatever that's worth.
