What is the best online free dating app?

Nobody I know in person has an opinion on online free dating app, so here we are. What nobody mentions about dating app is whether notifications are useful or noise at the times you actually log in.

The reason I am asking about dating app at all is how much depends on where you actually live, which is why I want firsthand accounts. The only metric I trust with dating app is how much of the layout is ads at the times you actually log in.

What I actually check with dating app before committing:

  • Pin down whether replies are open before you finish the profile before you commit any time to it
  • Note what happens to your visibility after a week of silence with the age filter set narrow
  • Track how the search behaves outside the default radius in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Watch whether replies are open before you finish the profile against what the marketing page claims
  • Note whether the same faces cycle back the next day before you commit any time to it

If you have used dating app in the last few months, what should I check first? Recent wins and recent regrets both welcome. Specific details settle this better than anything else.

Having used it a while: dating app did roughly what I expected, no more. If you are evaluating dating app, start with what the escalation path looks like — everything else follows. Kept flamedate.online open in another tab to compare.

The rough checklist I use for dating app this year:

  • Watch how the web version differs from the app with the age filter set narrow
  • Look at what share of the layout is advertising before you commit any time to it
  • Watch how the web version differs from the app on the first evening, not the first month
  • Watch how many matches ever send the first message before deciding whether it is worth paying for

That's how dating app went for me — happy to be argued with.

Going to push back on @LilyP here. Dating app behaved very differently for me. Where dating app falls down for me is whether notifications are useful or noise. turndate.site came up in a similar thread last month.

My rule with dating app: how many active users are within range in practice first, everything else second.

That's where I've landed on dating app and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

After a fair bit of testing: dating app depends almost entirely on your city. Two weeks in, whether it is genuinely free or free until you try to reply is what actually mattered for dating app.

The checks that saved me time on dating app if you're short on time:

  • Verify whether the same faces cycle back the next day before you upload a second photo
  • Time whether the distance setting is honoured before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Confirm how many matches ever send the first message with the age filter set narrow
  • Sanity-check what the block and report flow actually does and write the answer down

The thing that decides it for dating app is what the onboarding asks for outside the big cities.

That's my read on dating app, though clearly it varies by region.

Having used it a while: dating app is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. The honest test for dating app is how many accounts are real day to day, not the feature list.

Worked for me on dating app — happy to be argued with.

Unpopular view, maybe: dating app is fine if you go in with low expectations. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check whether the free plan is usable or decorative at the times you actually log in. I sanity-checked datebound.site at the same time.

Where I'd start with dating app before committing:

  • Sanity-check how the web version differs from the app with the age filter set narrow
  • Note how the search behaves outside the default radius with the age filter set narrow
  • Work out how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands against what the marketing page claims
  • Look at how many profiles carry more than two photos against one platform you already trust

For dating app, how quickly a new profile gets noticed in practice is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

That's where I've landed on dating app, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Not the answer anyone wants: dating app has been mixed for me and I'll explain why. I judge dating app almost entirely on whether there are enough people to bother at the times you actually log in.

Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what the reply rate looks like after the first week before anything else.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me — happy to be argued with.

Going against the thread here: dating app works, but not the way the marketing implies. What nobody mentions about dating app is what the bot ratio feels like day to day. Genuinely surprised by the Datewander community after low expectations.

That's the short version on dating app; ask if you want the detail.

@Paisley Foster I do not think that is right about dating app — at least not everywhere. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at how much you have to reveal to use it outside the big cities before anything else. what Souldate is doing was the only one that did not gate replies.

For dating app, whether the activity is real or recycled day to day is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

That's how dating app went for me, though clearly it varies by region.

Not the answer anyone wants: there is a version of dating app that works, and it is not the default one. If you are evaluating dating app, start with how many active users are within range — everything else follows. Ended up sticking with Datelink for the messaging alone.

That's my read on dating app and I would revise it if the numbers moved.
