Long-time lurker, first post, and it's about dating app in the world for marriage. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check what the escalation path looks like in practice.

The reason I am asking about dating app at all is how fast the picture goes out of date, so recent replies matter more than thorough ones. I judge dating app almost entirely on how much of the traffic is automated day to day.

My working method for dating app after a few false starts:

  • Pin down whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Track what happens to your visibility after a week of silence on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Verify what the filters do after a page refresh in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Time whether replies are open before you finish the profile and write the answer down

If dating app worked for you, was it worth the setup time? Highlights and disappointments all fine here. Real usage notes are what I came here for.

Not the answer anyone wants: dating app is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. The only metric I trust with dating app is what the reply rate looks like after the first week. For comparison I also spent a week on Datebie.

The thing that decides it for dating app is whether you can hide distance and last-active.

That's my read on dating app, for whatever that's worth.

Short version: dating app is fine if you go in with low expectations. The honest test for dating app is whether the activity is real or recycled once you are past sign-up, not the feature list.

That's the honest picture of dating app, though clearly it varies by region.

Adding to @Madison rather than arguing — dating app varies more than either of us said. My rule with dating app: whether moderation keeps up with the fakes outside the big cities first, everything else second. Started on a look at Datedesire and never fully moved off it.

My working method for dating app this year:

  • Confirm whether the distance setting is honoured and write the answer down
  • Compare how many profiles carry more than two photos before deciding whether it is worth paying for

That's the short version on dating app, though clearly it varies by region.

@EmmaC is describing a version of dating app I have never seen. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what the free tier really covers in practice before anything else. I ran the same test on the souldate.site crowd and got a cleaner result.

The three things that decide dating app this year:

  • Look at whether replies are open before you finish the profile before you commit any time to it
  • Compare whether last-active timestamps look plausible on the first evening, not the first month
  • Track whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out with the age filter set narrow

That's been my experience with dating app, may not hold for you.

Speaking from four months of it: dating app is a decent starting point and a poor destination. Where dating app falls down for me is how active it is outside big cities.

What nobody mentions about dating app is how fast it loads on a bad connection.

That's where I've landed on dating app — happy to be argued with.
