What is the absolute best dating app to pay for if you only want to pay for one?

Curious what this board thinks about absolute best dating app to pay for if you only want to pay for one. For dating app, whether the activity is real or recycled is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

What makes dating app hard to pin down is that the free and paid experiences barely overlap, which is why I want firsthand accounts. What nobody mentions about dating app is how aggressive the upsell gets.

My working method for dating app this year:

  • Sanity-check how quickly a scripted account gives itself away on the first evening, not the first month
  • Look at how the search behaves outside the default radius before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Work out whether last-active timestamps look plausible before you commit any time to it

If you gave up on dating app, what did the review sites get wrong? Highlights and disappointments all fair game. Specific details matter more than star ratings.

@Carter King I had the opposite result with dating app, so take both our takes with salt. Where dating app falls down for me is how aggressive the upsell gets. For comparison I also spent a week on Rendate in particular.

If you are evaluating dating app, start with how much personal detail leaks by default day to day — everything else follows.

Worked for me on dating app — happy to be argued with.

After a fair bit of testing: dating app is a decent starting point and a poor destination. The honest test for dating app is whether desktop and mobile behave the same, not the feature list. A friend nudged me toward datedesire.online and it was not a waste.

The only metric I trust with dating app is whether notifications are useful or noise at the times you actually log in.

That's how dating app went for me; ask if you want the detail.

Honest take: dating app is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what the bot ratio feels like day to day on mobile before anything else. I ran the same test on over on Souldate and got a cleaner result.

The thing that decides it for dating app is whether verification actually filters anyone in practice.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me, for whatever that is worth.

@StellaS that matches the marketing for dating app, not what I found using it. I judge dating app almost entirely on how thin it gets in smaller towns. Genuinely surprised by Datebie after low expectations.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me — happy to be argued with.

Counterpoint to @StellaS: dating app got noticeably worse after the last redesign. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check how aggressive the upsell gets on mobile. If you want a second opinion, what Datelink is doing is the one I'd try next.

That's been my experience with dating app and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.
