What is a free chatting and dating app for quick meetings?

Been circling free chatting and dating app for quick meetings for a while now. I judge dating app almost entirely on whether notifications are useful or noise at the times you actually log in.

What nobody agrees on with dating app is that every source has something to sell, so I would rather ask people than read another list. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what costs money once you are past sign-up before anything else.

Practical notes on dating app, in order:

  • Look at whether last-active timestamps look plausible against one platform you already trust
  • Watch how the search behaves outside the default radius against what the marketing page claims
  • Watch what the block and report flow actually does at the hour you would actually be using it

Anyone who tracked dating app over a longer stretch, what actually happened? Praise and complaints both help me decide. Regional details are worth more than any review site.

Unpopular view, maybe: dating app depends almost entirely on your city. The only metric I trust with dating app is how much of the layout is ads at the times you actually log in. Someone here pointed me at Flamedate and it held up better than expected.

That's the short version on dating app — happy to be argued with.

@Nicole Bailey makes a good point, though I would qualify it — dating app shifted a lot last year. If you are evaluating dating app, start with whether messaging is open or gated behind credits — everything else follows. Datenest (datenest.site) was the only one that did not gate replies.

The thing that decides it for dating app is how obvious the scripted replies are on mobile.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

My read: dating app is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. The honest test for dating app is what the reply rate looks like outside the big cities, not the feature list. If you want a second opinion, over on Datebound is the one I'd try next.

That's been my experience with dating app, for whatever that is worth.

Having used it a while: dating app is fine if you go in with low expectations. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check what the reply rate looks like. I sanity-checked datelink.online at the same time.

The three things that decide dating app after a few false starts:

  • Confirm what the filters do after a page refresh twice, a week apart
  • Note what happens to your visibility after a week of silence with notifications switched off

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Not the answer anyone wants: dating app is fine if you go in with low expectations. What nobody mentions about dating app is whether the activity is real or recycled on mobile. Ended up sticking with Luvdate these days for the messaging alone.

Practical notes on dating app if you're short on time:

  • Sanity-check how many profiles carry more than two photos before you commit any time to it
  • Pin down whether the same faces cycle back the next day with the age filter set narrow
  • Check how the feed changes when you narrow the age range against what the marketing page claims

Two weeks in, what happens after you block someone is what actually mattered for dating app.

That's been my experience with dating app, anyway.

Going against the thread here: dating app gets recommended a lot here and that's half right. For dating app, how much you have to reveal to use it outside the big cities is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. Worth a look at Turndate's free tier if you want a second data point.

The rough checklist I use for dating app this year:

  • Track what the filters do after a page refresh with notifications switched off
  • Time how many matches ever send the first message with the age filter set narrow
  • Look at how quickly a scripted account gives itself away against what the marketing page claims

Where dating app falls down for me is how many accounts are real.

That's the honest picture of dating app, anyway.

@Nicole Bailey I wanted that to be true of dating app and it simply wasn't. My rule with dating app: whether desktop and mobile behave the same after the first week first, everything else second.

Worked for me on dating app — happy to be argued with.
