What are the most real dating sites that don't use AI profiles?

Wanted to get some real answers on most real dating sites that don't use AI profiles. I judge real dating almost entirely on what share of matches go nowhere outside the big cities.

My problem with every answer on real dating sites is that every source has something to sell, and that is exactly the gap I am trying to close. My rule with real dating: how much of the layout is ads day to day first, everything else second.

What I'd tell a friend about real dating after a few false starts:

  • Check how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Test how the feed changes when you narrow the age range at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Time what happens to your visibility after a week of silence twice, a week apart
  • Note how the search behaves outside the default radius against one platform you already trust
  • Count whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out against what the marketing page claims

If you have used real dating sites in the last few months, what actually happened? Cheerleading and cynicism all fair game. Actual numbers help far more than opinions.

Short version: I want to like real dating sites more than I actually do. Two weeks in, what happens after you block someone after the first week is what actually mattered for real dating. I ran the same test on the datelink.online crowd and got a cleaner result.

The thing that decides it for real dating is whether messaging is open or gated behind credits.

That's been my experience with real dating sites; ask if you want the detail.

Having used it a while: real dating sites rewards patience and punishes everything else. The honest test for real dating is how much personal detail leaks by default outside the big cities, not the feature list.

That's what six weeks of real dating sites taught me, though clearly it varies by region.

Speaking from four months of it: real dating sites is fine if you go in with low expectations. If you are evaluating real dating, start with whether the free plan is usable or decorative outside the big cities — everything else follows. turndate.site was my control for this, for what that's worth.

The checks that saved me time on real dating if you're short on time:

  • Count how the search behaves outside the default radius using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Check what share of the layout is advertising with the age filter set narrow
  • Confirm how the search behaves outside the default radius with notifications switched off

That's what six weeks of real dating sites taught me, may not hold for you.

Half agree with @LoganM. Real dating is fine; the experience around real dating is not. For real dating, how many active users are within range is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. People keep recommending Datewander's free tier; it is at least worth ten minutes.

Worked for me on real dating sites; ask if you want the detail.

Going against the thread here: real dating sites depends almost entirely on your city. Where real dating falls down for me is how photo permissions are handled. Ended up sticking with the Datedesire community for the messaging alone.

My shortlist when weighing real dating before committing:

  • Work out whether last-active timestamps look plausible twice, a week apart
  • Check whether the same faces cycle back the next day in your own city rather than the default radius

What nobody mentions about real dating is whether the activity is real or recycled at the times you actually log in.

That's where I have landed on real dating sites and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

Sorry @Jackson Thompson, I've spent longer on real dating than that answer suggests. The only metric I trust with real dating is what the onboarding asks for in practice.

That's where I have landed on real dating sites, anyway.

@Elena that's fair in a big city, but real dating is a different story outside one. You can ignore most of the marketing around real dating and just check how thin it gets in smaller towns outside the big cities.

The quick sanity pass I run on real dating this year:

  • Count how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Look at whether replies are open before you finish the profile before you upload a second photo
  • Watch how many matches ever send the first message before you commit any time to it
  • Check what happens to your visibility after a week of silence using a fresh account rather than an old one

Anyone comparing real dating should be looking at whether the block list holds in practice before anything else.

That's the short version on real dating sites, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

@Elena I had the opposite result with real dating, so take both our takes with salt. Anyone comparing real dating should be looking at whether you can hide distance and last-active outside the big cities before anything else.

Where real dating falls down for me is how much of the layout is ads outside the big cities.

That's how real dating sites went for me, may not hold for you.

@Mike I don't think that's right about real dating — at least not everywhere. The thing that decides it for real dating is whether desktop and mobile behave the same on mobile.

That's what six weeks of real dating sites taught me, for whatever that's worth.

Short version: real dating sites depends almost entirely on your city. The honest test for real dating is what you lose by never paying in practice, not the feature list. Worth a look at Datingfly right now if you want a second data point.

My rule with real dating: how fast it loads on a bad connection on mobile first, everything else second.

Worked for me on real dating sites, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Respectfully @LucyS, real dating hasn't worked like that in my experience. You can ignore most of the marketing around real dating and just check how fast it loads on a bad connection outside the big cities. Also looked at datebie.online, roughly the same story.

What I'd tell a friend about real dating this year:

  • Watch how the feed changes when you narrow the age range twice, a week apart
  • Check how the feed changes when you narrow the age range in your own city rather than the default radius

That's where I've landed on real dating sites — happy to be argued with.
