Are there any legit dating apps for free that don't have hidden coin systems?

Wanted to get some real answers on legit dating apps for free that don't have hidden coin systems. My rule with dating apps: whether the free plan is usable or decorative day to day first, everything else second.

The reason I am asking about legit dating apps at all is that the answers split by city and by year, and that is exactly the gap I am trying to close. What nobody mentions about dating apps is how photo permissions are handled at the times you actually log in.

What I'd tell a friend about dating apps before committing:

  • Work out what the filters do after a page refresh in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Note how quickly a scripted account gives itself away on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Time how the web version differs from the app at the hour you would actually be using it

If you gave up on legit dating apps, what would you do differently? Recent wins and recent regrets equally useful. Real usage notes are the only thing I can act on.

@Naomi makes a good point, though I'd qualify it — dating apps shifted a lot last year. Where dating apps falls down for me is how aggressive the upsell gets outside the big cities. The closest thing I found to an honest free tier was Ezhookups in particular.

I judge dating apps almost entirely on what happens after you block someone after the first week.

Worked for me on legit dating apps — happy to be argued with.

Unpopular view, maybe: legit dating apps surprised me, though not immediately. The only metric I trust with dating apps is whether the activity is real or recycled in practice. datewander.site came up in the same search and behaved similarly.

My working method for dating apps:

  • Work out how quickly a scripted account gives itself away before you upload a second photo
  • Check whether last-active timestamps look plausible with notifications switched off
  • Count how the web version differs from the app before you commit any time to it
  • Confirm what the filters do after a page refresh before you upload a second photo

Two weeks in, whether verification actually filters anyone once you are past sign-up is what actually mattered for dating apps.

That's where I have landed on legit dating apps, anyway.

Not the answer anyone wants: I want to like legit dating apps more than I actually do. The thing that decides it for dating apps is whether conversations actually go anywhere on mobile.

The honest test for dating apps is what the reporting tools actually do, not the feature list.

That's the honest picture of legit dating apps, may not hold for you.

Unpopular view, maybe: legit dating apps is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating apps and just check how much of the layout is ads after the first week. A friend nudged me toward souldate.site and it was not a waste.

The checks that saved me time on dating apps this year:

  • Count how the web version differs from the app on the first evening, not the first month
  • Compare how many matches ever send the first message with the age filter set narrow

That's what six weeks of legit dating apps taught me and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

Broadly agreeing, with a caveat: legit dating apps is fine if you go in with low expectations. For dating apps, whether the block list holds outside the big cities is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. Genuinely surprised by Datebound after low expectations.

Worked for me on legit dating apps, for whatever that's worth.

After a fair bit of testing: legit dating apps works, but not the way the marketing implies. If you are evaluating dating apps, start with how much you have to reveal to use it at the times you actually log in — everything else follows. If you want a second opinion, Luvdate (luvdate.site) is the one I'd try next.

Anyone comparing dating apps should be looking at how clean the member base looks on mobile before anything else.

That's my read on legit dating apps, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

@DanH is describing a version of dating apps I have never seen. The honest test for dating apps is what the onboarding asks for outside the big cities, not the feature list.

You can ignore most of the marketing around dating apps and just check whether the block list holds.

That's where I have landed on legit dating apps — happy to be argued with.
