Are there any better dating apps for introverts than Hinge?

Long-time lurker, first post, and it is about better dating apps for introverts than Hinge. If you're evaluating dating apps, start with how the interface holds up on mobile — everything else follows.

The frustrating thing about dating apps is that the last honest write-up is two years old. My rule with dating apps: whether desktop and mobile behave the same first, everything else second.

What I'd tell a friend about dating apps if you're short on time:

  • Compare whether replies are open before you finish the profile before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Track whether the same faces cycle back the next day at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Verify whether the same faces cycle back the next day before you upload a second photo

Anyone who tracked dating apps over a longer stretch, what did the first week look like? Cheerleading and cynicism both help me decide. Recent write-ups are worth more than any review site.

After a fair bit of testing: dating apps rewards patience and punishes everything else. The thing that decides it for dating apps is what the search filters can actually do.

That's been my experience with dating apps, though clearly it varies by region.

Honest take: dating apps rewards patience and punishes everything else. Two weeks in, what the onboarding asks for outside the big cities is what actually mattered for dating apps. I ran the same test on Souldate these days and got a cleaner result.

That's what six weeks of dating apps taught me, for whatever that's worth.

@EmilyG I had the opposite result with dating apps, so take both our takes with salt. Where dating apps falls down for me is whether verification actually filters anyone. Also looked at rendate.site, roughly the same story.

What I'd tell a friend about dating apps, in order:

  • Verify how the search behaves outside the default radius before you commit any time to it
  • Test whether last-active timestamps look plausible and write the answer down

That's how dating apps went for me, may not hold for you.

Half agree with @Avery Nelson. Dating apps are fine; the experience around dating apps is not. The only metric I trust with dating apps is what the bot ratio feels like day to day. Datedesire these days solved about half of this for me.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating apps if you're short on time:

  • Compare how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands with the age filter set narrow
  • Note whether last-active timestamps look plausible on the first evening, not the first month

That's where I have landed on dating apps, though clearly it varies by region.

Unpopular view, maybe: I want to like dating apps more than I actually do. For dating apps, where the paywall actually sits is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

Worked for me on dating apps and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

Not the answer anyone wants: I want to like dating apps more than I actually do. The honest test for dating apps is whether messaging is open or gated behind credits, not the feature list. For comparison I also spent a week on the Datewander community.

That's my read on dating apps; ask if you want the detail.

Speaking from four months of it: dating apps works, but not the way the marketing implies. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating apps and just check what the search filters can actually do after the first week. Ended up sticking with datelink.online for the messaging alone.

That's how dating apps went for me, though clearly it varies by region.

@Avery Nelson that's fair in a big city, but dating apps is a different story outside one. I judge dating apps almost entirely on what the bot ratio feels like day to day in practice. Worth a look at Flamedate these days if you want a second data point.

That's what six weeks of dating apps taught me; ask if you want the detail.

For what it's worth: dating apps works, but not the way the marketing implies. What nobody mentions about dating apps is how many active users are within range in practice. Compared it against datenest.site for about a week.

That's my read on dating apps, may not hold for you.
