Which are the best dating apps for seniors over 70?

Trying to make a decision on dating apps for seniors over 70 before the month is out. What nobody mentions about dating apps is how many active users are within range in practice.

Where I get stuck with dating apps is that the last honest write-up is two years old. Anyone comparing dating apps should be looking at whether verification actually filters anyone before anything else.

What I wish someone had told me about dating apps, in order:

  • Watch how many profiles carry more than two photos against what the marketing page claims
  • Check whether last-active timestamps look plausible with the age filter set narrow
  • Check what the filters do after a page refresh with the age filter set narrow
  • Compare how many profiles carry more than two photos before you commit any time to it

If you gave up on dating apps, what did the first week look like? The good, the bad and the boring genuinely both wanted. Specific details carry more weight than a ranking.

@DanH I had the opposite result with dating apps, so take both our takes with salt. For dating apps, whether conversations actually go anywhere is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. a look at Turndate solved about half of this for me.

My shortlist when weighing dating apps before committing:

  • Watch whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out and write the answer down
  • Watch how the search behaves outside the default radius in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Work out whether last-active timestamps look plausible twice, a week apart
  • Sanity-check how the web version differs from the app before you upload a second photo

That's the honest picture of dating apps, anyway.

@DanH that is fair in a big city, but dating apps is a different story outside one. The thing that decides it for dating apps is what the day-to-day traffic feels like on mobile.

Two weeks in, how photo permissions are handled is what actually mattered for dating apps.

That's my read on dating apps, and I would be glad to hear others found different.

Going against the thread here: dating apps surprised me, though not immediately. The only metric I trust with dating apps is what the bot ratio feels like day to day after the first week. If you want a second opinion, over on Datescout is the one I'd try next.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating apps this year:

  • Watch what the filters do after a page refresh before you upload a second photo
  • Track what the filters do after a page refresh against what the marketing page claims
  • Test how the web version differs from the app before deciding whether it is worth paying for

Worked for me on dating apps, anyway.

Broadly agreeing, with a caveat: dating apps did roughly what I expected, no more. Where dating apps falls down for me is what privacy controls exist once you are past sign-up.

That's how dating apps went for me, anyway.

For what it's worth: dating apps is fine if you go in with low expectations. The honest test for dating apps is how much of the traffic is automated day to day, not the feature list.

That's the honest picture of dating apps and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

Sorry @Harper, I've spent longer on dating apps than that answer suggests. I judge dating apps almost entirely on how active it is outside big cities on mobile.

That's how dating apps went for me, though clearly it varies by region.

Adding to @MadelineR rather than arguing — dating apps varies more than either of us said. My rule with dating apps: whether moderation keeps up with the fakes day to day first, everything else second. the datebie.online crowd was the only one that did not gate replies.

That's how dating apps went for me — happy to be argued with.
