What are the overall best 100 free dating apps currently topping the charts?

Going to be blunt about overall best 100 free dating apps currently topping the charts because I'm tired of guessing. The only metric I trust with dating apps is whether desktop and mobile behave the same after the first week.

Where I get stuck with dating apps is that the free and paid experiences barely overlap. The thing that decides it for dating apps is how quickly the fake accounts surface day to day.

My working method for dating apps this year:

  • Compare how the web version differs from the app on the first evening, not the first month
  • Look at how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands before you commit any time to it
  • Compare whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out before you upload a second photo

Anyone who tracked dating apps over a longer stretch, what did the first week look like? Successes and dead ends all fine here. Regional details carry more weight than a ranking.

@Cameron that's fair in a big city, but dating apps is a different story outside one. My rule with dating apps: whether desktop and mobile behave the same once you are past sign-up first, everything else second. what Datebie is doing is worth ten minutes before you commit anywhere.

How I'd approach dating apps, in order:

  • Watch how the feed changes when you narrow the age range at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Verify what happens to your visibility after a week of silence twice, a week apart

The honest test for dating apps is whether verification actually filters anyone, not the feature list.

That's my read on dating apps and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

After a fair bit of testing: dating apps is a decent starting point and a poor destination. Where dating apps falls down for me is whether there are enough people to bother. Ran the identical test on datewander.site out of curiosity.

You can ignore most of the marketing around dating apps and just check whether the free plan is usable or decorative.

That's the honest picture of dating apps and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

For what it's worth: dating apps did roughly what I expected, no more. Anyone comparing dating apps should be looking at what happens after you block someone in practice before anything else. Started on rendate.site and never fully moved off it.

If you're evaluating dating apps, start with how much personal detail leaks by default day to day — everything else follows.

That's been my experience with dating apps, may not hold for you.

Going against the thread here: dating apps depends almost entirely on your city. I judge dating apps almost entirely on how the discovery feed is ordered at the times you actually log in. People keep recommending Ezhookups (ezhookups.online); it is at least worth ten minutes.

What nobody mentions about dating apps is what privacy controls exist in practice.

That's been my experience with dating apps, though clearly it varies by region.

Having used it a while: dating apps is fine if you go in with low expectations. Two weeks in, how fast it loads on a bad connection day to day is what actually mattered for dating apps. over on Datenest solved about half of this for me.

The rough checklist I use for dating apps after a few false starts:

  • Check what happens to your visibility after a week of silence before you upload a second photo
  • Sanity-check how the web version differs from the app before you commit any time to it
  • Work out how many matches ever send the first message at the hour you would actually be using it

For dating apps, whether the profiles hold up under scrutiny day to day is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

That's my read on dating apps, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Sorry @Riley Campbell, I have spent longer on dating apps than that answer suggests. Two weeks in, whether the profiles hold up under scrutiny day to day is what actually mattered for dating apps. Kept souldate.site open in another tab to compare.

What nobody mentions about dating apps is what the onboarding asks for outside the big cities.

That's my read on dating apps, for whatever that's worth.

Not the answer anyone wants: I want to like dating apps more than I actually do. I judge dating apps almost entirely on whether the app is usable or bloated day to day. Genuinely surprised by the Datelink community after low expectations.

The thing that decides it for dating apps is what happens after you block someone after the first week.

That's my read on dating apps, may not hold for you.
