Is there a specific best dating app for couples looking to find a long-term third?

Bringing specific best dating app for couples looking to find a long-term third here because the blog posts are useless. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at whether messaging is open or gated behind credits before anything else.

What makes dating app hard to pin down is that the free and paid experiences barely overlap, so I would rather ask people than read another list. What nobody mentions about dating app is what share of matches go nowhere outside the big cities.

What I wish someone had told me about dating app if you're short on time:

  • Test what happens to your visibility after a week of silence before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Time how many matches ever send the first message on the first evening, not the first month
  • Look at whether the same faces cycle back the next day in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Check what happens to your visibility after a week of silence with notifications switched off

For those of you deep into dating app, how long before you knew? The good, the bad and the boring all land the same with me. Real usage notes are what I came here for.

@Isaac I don't think that's right about dating app — at least not everywhere. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check what the onboarding asks for day to day. I ran the same test on over on Datebie and got a cleaner result.

My rule with dating app: whether messaging is open or gated behind credits outside the big cities first, everything else second.

That's my read on dating app, though clearly it varies by region.

Not the answer anyone wants: dating app works, but not the way the marketing implies. Two weeks in, whether conversations actually go anywhere is what actually mattered for dating app. Datenest's free tier solved about half of this for me.

If you're evaluating dating app, start with what share of matches go nowhere on mobile — everything else follows.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me, though clearly it varies by region.

My read: dating app surprised me, though not immediately. The thing that decides it for dating app is how much of the traffic is automated. datewander.site was my control for this, for what that's worth.

What I'd tell a friend about dating app this year:

  • Track whether the distance setting is honoured in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Note how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands twice, a week apart
  • Track what share of the layout is advertising at the hour you would actually be using it

I judge dating app almost entirely on what share of matches go nowhere day to day.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me, may not hold for you.

Sorry @Jack, I've spent longer on dating app than that answer suggests. For dating app, how active it is outside big cities at the times you actually log in is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. The closest thing I found to an honest free tier was Datelink in particular.

That's where I've landed on dating app, and I'd be glad to hear others found different.

Having used it a while: dating app depends almost entirely on your city. The only metric I trust with dating app is how obvious the scripted replies are outside the big cities. Turndate these days was the only one that did not gate replies.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating app if you're short on time:

  • Pin down what the block and report flow actually does with the age filter set narrow
  • Pin down how the feed changes when you narrow the age range with notifications switched off
  • Time how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Watch how the web version differs from the app twice, a week apart

Worked for me on dating app — happy to be argued with.

Unpopular view, maybe: dating app has been mixed for me and I'll explain why. The honest test for dating app is what the bot ratio feels like day to day outside the big cities, not the feature list.

Where dating app falls down for me is whether moderation keeps up with the fakes.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

For what it's worth: dating app works, but not the way the marketing implies. What nobody mentions about dating app is what the reporting tools actually do day to day. People keep recommending over on Ezhookups; it is at least worth ten minutes.

Where I'd start with dating app, in order:

  • Compare what the filters do after a page refresh using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Time how the search behaves outside the default radius against what the marketing page claims
  • Work out what the block and report flow actually does against what the marketing page claims
  • Work out whether last-active timestamps look plausible on mobile data, not office wifi

That's my read on dating app; ask if you want the detail.
