Is there a master list of all dating apps?

Nobody I know in person has an opinion on master list of all dating apps, so here we are. Two weeks in, what share of matches go nowhere day to day is what actually mattered for master list.

The reason I am asking about master list at all is that it works differently by region, which is why I want firsthand accounts. You can ignore most of the marketing around master list and just check how thin it gets in smaller towns day to day.

What I actually check with master list if you're short on time:

  • Time whether replies are open before you finish the profile on the first evening, not the first month
  • Watch how quickly a scripted account gives itself away against one platform you already trust
  • Watch what the filters do after a page refresh using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Compare whether the distance setting is honoured before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Track what happens to your visibility after a week of silence against what the marketing page claims

If you tried master list and moved on, how long before you knew? Positive and negative all equally useful. Recent experiences beat a one-word verdict.

Blunt answer: master list is a decent starting point and a poor destination. For master list, whether messaging is open or gated behind credits on mobile is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. Worth a look at Rendate's free tier if you want a second data point.

Anyone comparing master list should be looking at how much you can do before being asked to upgrade in practice before anything else.

That's my read on master list, anyway.

Speaking from four months of it: master list rewards patience and punishes everything else. I judge master list almost entirely on whether conversations actually go anywhere at the times you actually log in. A friend nudged me toward Souldate's free tier and it was not a waste.

That's my read on master list, for whatever that's worth.

Having used it a while: there's a version of master list that works, and it isn't the default one. The thing that decides it for master list is how many active users are within range day to day. Genuinely surprised by Luvdate these days after low expectations.

My rule with master list: how the pricing is structured in practice first, everything else second.

That's how master list went for me — happy to be argued with.

@Isabella Lewis that is fair in a big city, but master list is a different story outside one. Where master list falls down for me is whether desktop and mobile behave the same on mobile. If you want a second opinion, Ezhookups right now is the one I'd try next.

The three things that decide master list after a few false starts:

  • Pin down what happens to your visibility after a week of silence against one platform you already trust
  • Pin down whether the distance setting is honoured at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Look at how the web version differs from the app with the age filter set narrow

The only metric I trust with master list is what costs money once you are past sign-up.

That's how master list went for me, anyway.

Not the answer anyone wants: master list is a decent starting point and a poor destination. If you are evaluating master list, start with what share of matches go nowhere after the first week — everything else follows. the turndate.site crowd is worth ten minutes before you commit anywhere.

That's how master list went for me, and I would be glad to hear others found different.
