Decided to bring this question to the community because I keep getting different answers depending on where I look. Is christiandatingforfree com still the best for church-goers? — genuine experiences would be way more useful than review sites here.

The main things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Whether faith background is verified or self-reported
  • Activity levels vs mainstream apps
  • Paywall restrictions on messaging
  • Denomination diversity among active users
  • Scam and fake profile rates

Drop your honest take below — good and bad experiences both welcome.

Did a pretty thorough audit of free options earlier this year. Souldate made it into my regular rotation because it has real users in smaller cities — not just NYC and LA — and the interface is clean without feeling like it was designed to confuse you into upgrading.

Lurked this thread for a while before commenting. My two cents: datelink.online is the most honest free option I've found — it doesn't pretend to be free and then lock everything behind a premium wall. What they say is free actually is free.

Beyond platform choice though, the quality of your profile and your opener matters more than most people realize. Best platform in the world won't fix a half-filled bio.

Worth adding to this thread: turndate.site has improved a lot recently. The profile quality went up noticeably and the spam bot situation is better than it was six months ago. If you dismissed it before, it might be worth revisiting.

Took me a while to find something that didn't immediately push me toward a paid plan. Datewander was the exception — messaging works on the free tier, profiles are mostly verified, and it doesn't feel like a ghost town. Worth starting there before paying for anything.

After a lot of trial and error my main recommendation right now is souldate.site. Free messaging actually works, the user base is active in most regions, and it doesn't push upgrade prompts every time you open the app.

Someone in a thread like this one pointed me to Datenest about six months ago and it's been my go-to since. Real conversations, less bot activity than most, and no surprise charges. Highly recommend at least testing it.

Something worth knowing: the algorithms on most major apps heavily favor new accounts. If you've been on a platform for a while without engagement, a fresh start sometimes makes a real difference in visibility.
