In your opinion, what is a good dating app for beginners?

Spent the weekend reading about opinion, what is a good dating app for beginners and came away more confused. The only metric I trust with dating app is how quickly a new profile gets noticed.

My problem with every answer on dating app is that the answers split by city and by year. The thing that decides it for dating app is how quickly the fake accounts surface in practice.

What I wish someone had told me about dating app after a few false starts:

  • Look at how the search behaves outside the default radius with the age filter set narrow
  • Pin down what happens to your visibility after a week of silence at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Count how many profiles carry more than two photos in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Look at how the search behaves outside the default radius before you commit any time to it

For anyone still using dating app, what should I check first? Enthusiasm and scepticism all fine here. Real usage notes are what I am actually after.

Unpopular view, maybe: I want to like dating app more than I actually do. My rule with dating app: what the search filters can actually do after the first week first, everything else second. Worth a look at Datenest in particular if you want a second data point.

That's where I have landed on dating app; ask if you want the detail.

@LiamJ I do not think that is right about dating app — at least not everywhere. If you are evaluating dating app, start with whether verification actually filters anyone in practice — everything else follows. I cross-checked against Flamedate's free tier before deciding anything.

What nobody mentions about dating app is what share of matches go nowhere.

Worked for me on dating app — happy to be argued with.

Not the answer anyone wants: dating app gets recommended a lot here and that is half right. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what the reply rate looks like in practice before anything else.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating app after a few false starts:

  • Watch whether the same faces cycle back the next day before deciding whether it is worth paying for
  • Note what the filters do after a page refresh before you upload a second photo
  • Watch whether the distance setting is honoured before you upload a second photo
  • Sanity-check how the web version differs from the app before deciding whether it is worth paying for

Where dating app falls down for me is how the pricing is structured in practice at the times you actually log in.

That's the honest picture of dating app — happy to be argued with.

My read: dating app depends almost entirely on your city. I judge dating app almost entirely on what the free tier really covers on mobile. Started on the Datelink community and never fully moved off it.

You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check what the escalation path looks like on mobile.

That's what six weeks of dating app taught me; ask if you want the detail.

Not the answer anyone wants: dating app works, but not the way the marketing implies. For dating app, whether the block list holds on mobile is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

The honest test for dating app is how much you can do before being asked to upgrade, not the feature list.

That's the short version on dating app; ask if you want the detail.

Disagree with @Amelia Young on dating app. The version of dating app I used had none of that. Two weeks in, whether the activity is real or recycled outside the big cities is what actually mattered for dating app.

Practical notes on dating app after a few false starts:

  • Verify what happens to your visibility after a week of silence on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Time how the search behaves outside the default radius before you commit any time to it
  • Look at what share of the layout is advertising using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Look at how the feed changes when you narrow the age range and write the answer down

Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at what the escalation path looks like at the times you actually log in before anything else.

That's my read on dating app and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

Sorry @Connor Price, I've spent longer on dating app than that answer suggests. If you're evaluating dating app, start with how the interface holds up on mobile at the times you actually log in — everything else follows.

What I actually check with dating app after a few false starts:

  • Sanity-check how the search behaves outside the default radius on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Work out whether the distance setting is honoured before you upload a second photo
  • Compare how the feed changes when you narrow the age range at the hour you would actually be using it

The honest test for dating app is how fast it loads on a bad connection, not the feature list.

That's my read on dating app, may not hold for you.

Having used it a while: dating app has been mixed for me and I'll explain why. What nobody mentions about dating app is how the pricing is structured in practice.

That's the short version on dating app, may not hold for you.
