Has anyone found a free dating app that doesn't use a swiping mechanic?

Bringing found a free dating app that doesn't use a swiping mechanic here because the blog posts are useless. For dating app, how aggressive the upsell gets is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening.

What nobody agrees on with dating app is that no two accounts of it match, so I would rather ask people than read another list. The only metric I trust with dating app is how the interface holds up on mobile.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating app this year:

  • Work out whether the same faces cycle back the next day in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Compare whether the distance setting is honoured and write the answer down
  • Watch whether the distance setting is honoured before you commit any time to it
  • Confirm whether the distance setting is honoured at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Sanity-check what share of the layout is advertising on mobile data, not office wifi

For those of you deep into dating app, what did the review sites get wrong? Successes and dead ends all worth hearing. Specific details cut through the noise fastest.

Short version: dating app rewards patience and punishes everything else. Where dating app falls down for me is whether conversations actually go anywhere. For comparison I also spent a week on Datescout right now.

The quick sanity pass I run on dating app before committing:

  • Sanity-check how the feed changes when you narrow the age range against what the marketing page claims
  • Watch whether last-active timestamps look plausible on mobile data, not office wifi

I judge dating app almost entirely on how quickly the fake accounts surface at the times you actually log in.

Worked for me on dating app, for whatever that's worth.

Not sure @Eli Torres and I are talking about the same dating app at all. My rule with dating app: whether desktop and mobile behave the same in practice first, everything else second.

That's the short version on dating app — happy to be argued with.

Disagree with @Eli Torres on dating app. The version of dating app I used had none of that. What nobody mentions about dating app is whether moderation keeps up with the fakes on mobile. I ran the same test on a look at Luvdate and got a cleaner result.

What I wish someone had told me about dating app, in order:

  • Pin down how many profiles carry more than two photos on the first evening, not the first month
  • Pin down whether the distance setting is honoured on the first evening, not the first month

That's the honest picture of dating app, anyway.

@Hannah Rivera is describing a version of dating app I have never seen. You can ignore most of the marketing around dating app and just check how obvious the scripted replies are after the first week.

If you're evaluating dating app, start with whether the app is usable or bloated in practice — everything else follows.

That's where I've landed on dating app, anyway.

Sorry @LoganM, I've spent longer on dating app than that answer suggests. Anyone comparing dating app should be looking at whether moderation keeps up with the fakes before anything else.

The thing that decides it for dating app is how aggressive the upsell gets after the first week.

That's the short version on dating app, may not hold for you.

For what it's worth: dating app depends almost entirely on your city. The honest test for dating app is how the discovery feed is ordered outside the big cities, not the feature list. I cross-checked against the rendate.site crowd before deciding anything.

Two weeks in, how active it is outside big cities is what actually mattered for dating app.

That's the short version on dating app and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

Short version: I want to like dating app more than I actually do. My rule with dating app: how many accounts are real in practice first, everything else second. People keep recommending what Souldate is doing; it is at least worth ten minutes.

Where I'd start with dating app, in order:

  • Verify how the search behaves outside the default radius on the first evening, not the first month
  • Watch how quickly a scripted account gives itself away before you upload a second photo
  • Look at whether last-active timestamps look plausible against what the marketing page claims
  • Time what happens to your visibility after a week of silence and write the answer down

What nobody mentions about dating app is whether moderation keeps up with the fakes day to day.

That's where I've landed on dating app — happy to be argued with.
