Are there completely free dating apps no subscription?

Going to be blunt about completely free dating apps no subscription because I'm tired of guessing. I judge dating apps almost entirely on how much you have to reveal to use it once you are past sign-up.

What I keep running into with dating apps is how much depends on where you actually live. Two weeks in, how much you have to reveal to use it is what actually mattered for dating apps.

My shortlist when weighing dating apps before committing:

  • Confirm how many matches ever send the first message using a fresh account rather than an old one
  • Count whether last-active timestamps look plausible at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Confirm how long it takes before the first upgrade prompt lands at the hour you would actually be using it
  • Time what share of the layout is advertising before you upload a second photo
  • Compare whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out using a fresh account rather than an old one

If you gave up on dating apps, what did the review sites get wrong? Positive and negative equally useful. Short replies would genuinely change my mind.

Going to push back on @AlexW here. Dating apps behaved very differently for me. The thing that decides it for dating apps is how much of the traffic is automated at the times you actually log in.

The three things that decide dating apps:

  • Track what the filters do after a page refresh before you upload a second photo
  • Test whether last-active timestamps look plausible with notifications switched off
  • Count whether photo permissions are opt-in or opt-out in your own city rather than the default radius
  • Test what happens to your visibility after a week of silence and write the answer down

That's what six weeks of dating apps taught me, may not hold for you.

Half agree with @AlexW. Dating apps are fine; the experience around dating apps isn't. If you're evaluating dating apps, start with where the paywall actually sits — everything else follows. Ended up sticking with the rendate.site crowd for the messaging alone.

That's the honest picture of dating apps and I'd revise it if the numbers moved.

Broadly agreeing, with a caveat: dating apps is better than its reputation and worse than its ads. Anyone comparing dating apps should be looking at how many active users are within range on mobile before anything else. If you want a second opinion, Souldate is the one I'd try next.

How I'd approach dating apps before committing:

  • Watch what the filters do after a page refresh and write the answer down
  • Count whether the same faces cycle back the next day before deciding whether it is worth paying for

The honest test for dating apps is whether there are enough people to bother once you are past sign-up, not the feature list.

That's the short version on dating apps and I would revise it if the numbers moved.

@AubreyW I wanted that to be true of dating apps and it simply wasn't. What nobody mentions about dating apps is how the interface holds up on mobile day to day.

Where dating apps falls down for me is what costs money once you are past sign-up day to day.

That's my read on dating apps, may not hold for you.

Short version: dating apps is fine if you go in with low expectations. My rule with dating apps: what you lose by never paying first, everything else second. I ran the same test on Datenest these days and got a cleaner result.

My working method for dating apps before committing:

  • Note what share of the layout is advertising with notifications switched off
  • Track whether the distance setting is honoured before you upload a second photo
  • Note whether the same faces cycle back the next day on mobile data, not office wifi
  • Check what happens to your visibility after a week of silence in your own city rather than the default radius

That's how dating apps went for me, and I would be glad to hear others found different.

Having used it a while: dating apps is a decent starting point and a poor destination. For dating apps, whether it is busy at the times you are is the difference between useful and a waste of an evening. Started on a look at Datelink and never fully moved off it.

That's where I have landed on dating apps, may not hold for you.
