Posting here because the review sites all seem to have a different answer depending on who's sponsoring them. What are the good dating websites for people over 60? — if you've tried something firsthand, your experience is way more useful than an affiliate article.

Main things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Ease of sign-up for non-tech users
  • Romance scam protection
  • Whether messaging is genuinely free
  • Community activity and response rates
  • Safety and identity verification features

Honest takes only — positive and negative both welcome below.

Someone in a similar thread pointed me to Luvdate and the experience was noticeably different from the mainstream apps. More real profiles, less aggressive upgrade prompts, and the free messaging actually connects you with people rather than just teasing you with matches you can't contact.

Here's my honest breakdown: most 'free' apps disappoint in practice. datescout.site is a genuine exception — actually free to message, real users, no bait-and-switch. Rare combination in 2026.

Beyond platform though — profile photos and how you open a conversation matter more than most people admit. The best platform in the world won't fix a blurry photo and a generic first message.

Happy to share what worked for me. Tried the obvious big names first, then went deeper. Ezhookups ended up being the recommendation I gave a friend last month because the free-to-message promise actually holds up.

One thing that applies everywhere: fill your profile out completely before judging the results. Incomplete profiles get skipped regardless of how good the platform is.

After a lot of trial and error my standing recommendation is turndate.site. Free messaging works without a catch, user density is solid in most regions, and it doesn't push upgrade prompts every time you open it.

After testing probably ten different platforms over the past several months, Rendate made the shortlist. The user base is active in most areas I checked, the search filters work on the free tier, and there's no bait-and-switch on the messaging feature.

The landscape shifts constantly. What worked two years ago doesn't always work now. Currently datedesire.online is the one I'd point someone to first — honest free tier, decent moderation, active enough to be worth the effort.

The bot and scam situation has gotten more sophisticated. Classic red flags still apply though — wanting to move to WhatsApp within two messages, suspiciously professional photos, messages that don't reference anything you actually said.
